Fragrances in the garden

Delicate or suave fragrances are revealed according to the hours of the day or night. The fragrances are an integral part of the garden, awakening our senses and evoking memories of simple happiness.

Shrubs with an enchanting fragrance

Some shrubs call out to us by their fragrances supporting their romantic beauty; this is the case of roses exhaling sometimes heady, spicy or fruity scents, but also wisteria whose clusters of mauve or white bells embalm the garden from spring. Another undisputed star is lilac, which distils its delicate scent under the morning dew. More discreetly, the winter fragrances of daphnia, viburnums, mahonias or skimmias will brighten the bad season with their fragrant beauty.

One generally thinks little of the eleagnus that form beautiful silvery hedges and exhale a surprising carnation scent in autumn.

Finally, in the gardens of the clement regions, a gardenia will be one of the essential plants to install in the garden, so much its evocative perfume of faraway lands is taking! Also think of citrus fruits whose bloom is an enchantment for the senses.

Exceptional bulbs

Opening the spring symphony, the daffodils embalm the garden with their sustained fragrance, followed by the inimitable hyacinths with their sweet spicy scent and later in summer, the famous tuberose recognized as the most fragrant flower in the plant world. Don't hesitate to plant these bulbs along your walkways or under your windows to enjoy them to the fullest.

Intoxicating climbers

We have already mentioned the incredible wisteria above, but many other climbing plants can be mentioned in the olfactory field. The first that comes to mind is undoubtedly jasmine, which develops its powerful scent even more at nightfall, so it will be ideally placed near a garden lounge to accompany your summer evenings with its scent.

The honeysuckle is also part of the essentials. There are many varieties of it, which judiciously selected, will allow you to spread out the fragrant blooms a good part of the year. A few peas of scents sown here and there at the foot of a fence will be at the same time of the most beautiful effect and will bring you their refreshing notes. Also think of climbing roses to dress up your arbors or create scented tunnels between different areas of the garden: guaranteed effect!

Bedding plants with evocative fragrances

Some bedding plants such as ornamental tobacco or lady's julienne distill their powerful fragrances in the evening. The night beauty is one of these plants essential to the garden of scents! During the day, lavender will take over with its vacation scent, as well as the little-known heliotrope with its honey scent. In a busy area, think of the fragrant pelargoniums which from the crumpling of their foliage will sometimes emit mint, rose or lemon scents.
