A garden in black and white

Always sober and elegant, the black and white garden ensures an outstanding graphic effect. Mixed, these two very contrasting colors always make their effect!

Interest of the black and white garden

Taste mistakes in a garden are sometimes inevitable if colors are mixed indiscriminately. With the choice of a black and white garden, no more worries! Only green, white and black will share the spotlight. White is perfect for illuminating shady areas or more secluded places, it enlarges the space while black will do wonders in the sunlight that will magnify its iridescent reflections but it does not have to be the only thread. You can mix white foliage with black flowers or vice versa as long as you respect the needs of each plant to ensure total success.

Which plants for a black and white garden?

For a very 'Black and white' spring, have fun composing original beds.

Black roses such as 'Black Baccara' will look great in the company of white gypsophila with small, wispy flowers for an absolute contrast of textures and shapes. Conversely, pure white roses like 'Pierre Arditi' will look great against a backdrop of black foliage. If you have a lawn, plant tulip bulbs by mixing white and black varieties by forming patches of color or by mixing them as you wish but be careful to match the blooming period because there are early and late tulips. In the border of a bed, combine 'Black Cornuta' violas with white hyacinths or immaculate narcissus. The contrast will catch the eye and the sweet scent will awaken the senses. You can make the opposite combination in another bed with black hyacinths 'Black dimension' and white violas at their feet which will serve as a perfect setting, while achieving a mirror effect with the other bed quite surprising.

For an opulent and spectacular bed in summer, think of mixing the dahlia cactus 'Black Cat' with lilies, delphiniums or foxgloves whose white varieties will highlight its incredible flowers. You can add a touch of originality with the cosmos 'Chocolate' which, as its name indicates, distils cocoa fragrances.

In mid-shade, the shiny black foliage of the heuchere 'Obsidian' will certainly enhance the white panicles of the hydrangea Annabelle.

For beautiful winter blooms think of hellebores! The almost black 'Black' variety combined with 'Double White' with very double flowers and immaculate wavy petals will be a hit with collectors!
