Patience is the first quality of a gardener, but not everyone has it. Some people, just installed, wish to see a dream garden unfold before their amazed eyes. This is not a utopia! There are a few tricks that can save precious time.
Structure the garden
Arrangements such as pergolas, gazebos, arches or bridges ensure a quick show, especially if they are painted in bright colors or white to be clearly visible. Install as soon as possible plants already in bloom at their feet such as clematis, climbing roses, honeysuckle...
Create intimate areas with the help of screens, wooden, wrought iron or Corten steel panels behind which you can install cozy garden furniture or your future vegetable garden.
You can also install a fountain surrounded by plants such as ferns or hostas that are always very ornamental.
An instant lawn
If you wish to obtain a beautiful lawn very quickly, do not hesitate to spread a lawn roll on a ground previously leveled, prepared and amended with compost. Once properly placed, simply water your new lawn regularly to obtain a beautiful green carpet in record time.
Fast-growing shrubs
Next, choose fast-growing shrubs such as escallonia, elderberry, abelia, spirea or serviceberry. Beautiful flowering hydrangeas will also do well in cool soil in partial shade.
In the South, think of oleanders and hibiscus which provide a show for many months. Shrubs are the 'backbone' of a garden, just like trees which are perennial plants. If your land is humid, think of willows or eucalyptus, known for their very fast growth. Elsewhere, a catalpa or a beautiful Cypress of Florence will bring a certain cachet to the garden.
Plants that are already well developed
Prefer to introduce into your garden plants that are already in bloom for an immediate effect and opt for annual plants that are immediately available in garden centers. Choose them in bud for a more lasting effect, you will enjoy them longer especially if you take the trouble to remove the faded flowers as they appear which will induce a new wave of flowering.
You can then complete the decor as you go along with perennials that will last from one year to the next.
Think also of grasses, which require no maintenance to give the best of themselves and which bring movement and a little lightness to the garden.
