10 flowers for winter

Here is a selection of flowers that can withstand the rigors of winter weather and bloom despite snow or frost. Little treasures in a garden, give them a place of choice so that they bring you maximum joy!

1- Winter jasmine


Jasminum nudiflorum unfolds its small golden yellow corollas on its still bare stems, a feature that gives it a very graphic look. Rustic, it blooms from December to March and will find its place on a trellis along a wall.

2- Camellia


An ideal shrub for acidic soils, the camellia comes in many species whose staggered flowering periods brighten up the garden throughout the winter. From Camellia sasanqua with its small, single, fragrant flowers to Camellia japonica with its very double, colorful flowers, the choice is vast among the varieties.

3- The winter viburnum


Viburnum x bodnantense is content with most soils and is equally at home in full sun or part shade. Its small pale pink flowers with a subtle perfume, appear as early as January and scent the passing areas with their spicy notes.

4- Daphne


Daphne odora is a beautiful shrub with evergreen foliage and flowers that give off the scent of hyacinth in winter. It is best planted in mid-shade in loose, cool, moist soil. The variety 'Aureomarginata' is particularly interesting for its yellow underlined foliage and for its pink flowers.

5- Chimonanthe


A little forgotten in the garden, Chimonanthus praecox is a shrub with a spreading habit very appreciated in hedges or at the bottom of a bed, it tolerates the wind and the sea spray and can therefore also be considered on the coasts. Its yellow flowers, sometimes purple at the base of the petals, fill the garden with the scent of honey throughout the winter.

6- Mahonia

7- Hellebore

8- Winter Honeysuckle


Forming a dense bush, Lonicera fragrantissima produces numerous creamy white flowers with unforgettable fragrances that will perfume your garden from December to March. Perfect under a window or along a walkway, this honeysuckle is equally at home in partial or full sun and attracts pollinating insects.

9- Osmanthus


Very ornamental with its holly-like foliage, osmanthus is covered with small white flowers with an incomparable fragrance at the end of winter. This easy to grow shrub comes in many varieties, some of which, with their variegated foliage, will brighten up your garden.

10- Witch Hazel


The famous "witches' hazelnut" is adorned with disheveled golden yellow flowers from February in regions with mild winters. Its very characteristic perfume perfumes the garden with all its delicacy. It appreciates neutral to acidic, fresh and fertile soils and a half-shaded exposure where it will give its best.
